Mercedes will drop V12 engines

Mercedes may be looking to replace its V10 and V12 models with four different models of twin turbo versions of its V8 engines. The cars that are likely effected will be the future S600, CL600, SL600, S65, CL65, and SL65.

The luxury automaker was rumored to be working on a replacement for its current V12 engine, but the recent shift in the importance of fuel economy and emissions has likely halted that work. The idea is that the twin-turbos will be able to offer similar performance V10 and V12 models, but should return better fuel economy due to the lighter weight and less thirsty nature.

New Meriva will have rear-hinged rear doors

Opel's new Meriva minivan will have rear-hinged rear doors like those shown in a concept that the General Motors subsidiary unveiled here.
"These doors have had very good feedback and they will make it on to the production version," Alain Visser, GM Europe's chief marketing officer, said.
The concept's rear-hinged rear doors open wider than front-hinged doors. That makes it easier for passengers to get in and out.
Visser said the new Meriva will look very similar to the Geneva concept car.
The new-generation Meriva likely will go on sale in early 2010.
Visser would not say where the new Meriva will be built. The current small minivan is produced at GM's plant in Zaragoza, Spain,

Hyundai and Kia unveil fuel-efficient cars

Hyundai and Kia showed fuel-efficient cars that will help the Korean brands to lower their average CO2 fleet emissions in Europe.
Kia Chief Operating Officer Paul Willis said the carmaker realizes that cutting CO2 emissions is an important issue.
"We have to recognize it and respond to it appropriately. The market is dictating that everyone listens to the issues of CO2," Willis said.
Kia's most fuel-efficient cars will have the label Eco before the model name. In Geneva, Kia unveiled a five-door version of its Cee'd lower-medium hatchback with CO2 emissions of 106 grams per kilometer called the Eco-Cee'd and a three-door Pro-Cee'd with CO2 emissions of 104g/km.
The cars use technology such as stop-start systems and better aerodynamics to improve fuel economy and therefore cut CO2 emissions.
Currently, the most fuel-efficient Cee'd cars are a 1.6-liter diesel with CO2 emissions of 119g/km and a 1.6-liter gasoline Cee'd with CO2 emissions of 152g/km.

BMW is working on 2 small crossovers

A production version of the four-seat Crossover Concept is expected to go on sale in 2010.
The X1, based on the 1-series car, is expected to go on sale in the United States by 2010 or 2011. Reithofer said the X1 will be a volume vehicle rather than a niche car such as the larger X6 crossover.
And later this year, BMW will launch a diesel-powered 3 series and X5. Reithofer declined to disclose the premium that BMW will charge for its diesels. Mercedes-Benz charges about $1,500 more for its 50-state clean diesels, which went on sale this month.

The Audi O Concept is a design study for a vehicle focused on audio listening, inspired by the design of modern music players and by the brand’s styling cues. The author is Czech student Ondrej Jirec.

The idea behind Audi O concept was to design “a large music player”, fusing audio equipment with transport.

The exterior styling of the Audi O is neat and carries several Audi trademark styling themes. Sources of inspiration were the Apple iPod, the Audi Shooting Brake, music and Audi of course.

Lexus LF-A will be priced above $200k!

Lexus has showed the LF-A supercar on three auto shows, tested it on Nürburgring and now seems that the car is ready for production.

Lexus LF-A is powered by a 5.5-liter V10 producing around 500 hp. Lexus has said that the top speed will be over 200 mph! Both coupe and roadster versions wil be offered. And the price? Sources say the carbon-fiber supercar will cost around $225,000. Roadster version even more.

Lexus will show eight project vehicles

Lexus marks its return to the SEMA Show with another selection of exciting project cars following its official debut at the 2007 show. This year, Lexus will feature eight project vehicles at its exhibit.

The vehicles will include, Five Axis “Project GS” luxury sport sedan, Five Axis “Project IS F” with a newly fortified engine, F-Sport-equipped IS 350 with a new concept body kit, Four new projects based on the IS F high-performance sport sedan and A specially modified LX 570 luxury utility vehicle.
